Scientists followed 50 men and boys ages 15 to 25, all of them with acne, for 12 weeks. Some subjects stuck to a typical diet high-glycemic index foods like white bread, sweetened cereals and pasta, and the others were given foods higher in protein and lower GI, like fish, whole-grain breads and fruit. At the end of the study, published in 2007, the subjects on the low-GI diet had far greater reductions in skin lesions and other symptoms of acne.

A total of 2078 men and 2159 women, aged 55-69 years, were included in the analysis. The risk of being obese as compared to normal weight was 10% lower for each additional gram of grain consumption men eat. And 4% lower in women. Whole-grain consumption may protect against becoming overweight or obese; however, the cross-sectional design of the study does not allow conclusions about the causality of the association.
Whole-grain and fruits were the foods negatively associated with metabolic syndrome. The intake of soluble fibers, particularly from whole-grain foods and fruits, may have a protective role for the presence of metabolic syndrome in this studied sample of 214 patients with type 2 diabetes.

2964 children aged 4 to 12 years were studied. In 2001-04 37% had low levels of active play, 65% had high screen time, and 26.3% had both these behaviors.
The qualitative and quantitative content of 4,365 meals theoretically available and 330 meals consumed was recorded during five weekdays spread over three weeks in a Belgian university canteen. To ensure overall compliance with dietary recommendations, considerable changes on the supply side, i.e. an increase in fruit and vegetable portions and a reduction in salt and fat of the lunch, are needed first in this setting.
