This cross-sectional study is based on data from questionnaires. Anthropometric measurements were collected by trained professionals. 54720 Danish men and women aged 50-64 years participated. Intake of wholegrain products was associated with intake of fish, red meat, poultry, processed meat, dairy products, fruits, vegetables, cakes and refined-grain products. The strongest positive associations were seen for intake of vegetables and processed meat, whereas the strongest negative associations were seen for intake of red meat and refined-grain products. Wholegrain intake was also positively associated with cycling, taking dietary supplements and high school education, and negatively associated with intake of alcohol, BMI and smoking. Out of 201 children in grades 4-6 30% children were overweight and 34% obese. The 18 % of children who consumed three or more restaurant meals in the three days of recall consumed, on average, 2004 kJ (479 kcal) more energy daily than children consuming no restaurant meals and had higher intakes of fat, saturated fat, Ca and soda. Only 68 % of children reported often having fruits and vegetables in the home and 98.5 % of children consumed less than 5 fruits and vegetables daily.
