Cost effectiveness of community-based physical activity interventions

A lifetime cost-effectiveness analysis from a societal perspective was conducted to estimate the costs, health gains, and cost-effectiveness (dollars per quality-adjusted life year gained, relative to no intervention) of seven public health interventions to promote physical activity. Cost-effectiveness ratios ranged between $14,000 and $69,000 per QALY gained.

Neighborhood Greenness and 2-Year Changes in BMI af kids

3831 kids aged 3–16 years who lived at the same address for 24 consecutive months in Indiana were follwed. Greenness may present a target for environmental approaches to preventing child obesity since higher greenness was significantly associated with lower BMI z-scores regardless of residential density characteristics. This study will be published in American Journal of Preventive Medicine in December.

384 children participated in the Danish arm of the European Youth Heart Study were followed up 6 years later. Cardio-respiratory fitness was significantly associated with cycling to school in children and adolescents of both sexes.
