This cross-sectional study of 68 schools and 1347 students. Physical environment characteristics were assessed through questionnaires completed by the principals. Most students were interested in more opportunities for physical activity in school. Students attending schools with many facilities had 4.5 times higher odds of being physically active compared to students in schools with fewer facilities.
Researchers looked at data from 5,000 participants in the Active for Life® program in 2003 and agin in 2007. The findings showed significant increases in total physical activity, as well as increases in moderate to vigorous intensity. Participants also showed increases in satisfaction of body appearance and function, and small decreases in body weight. Those who took part in the Active Living Every Day program also reported a decrease in perceived stress and depressive symptoms.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) pledged $18.7 million Wednesday to support expansion of the Sports4Kids recess program into as many as 650 low-income schools over the next five years.
A study of sedentary and overweight older people showed that when older people diet without exercising, they lose more lean muscle compared to those who exercise. When they combined weight loss with exercise, it nearly completely prevented the loss of lean muscle mass.

Take A Child Outside Week is a program designed to help break down obstacles that keep children from discovering the natural world. This program has been initiated by the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and PA is second to the focus on the natural world.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has partnered with several local organizations to sponsor Take a Child Outside Week (September 24-30). It’s part of an international campaign that encourages children and parents to engage in outdoor activities.

This is the first study showing that anything can increase telomerase. If it was a new drug that had been shown to do this, it would be a billion-dollar drug.
