Researchers determined mean nutrient intakes and physiological values between bean consumers and non-consumers. Bean consumers had better overall nutrient intake levels, better body weights and waist circumferences, and lower systolic blood pressure in comparison to non-consumers.

A randomized controlled intervention trial was conducted in 14 low-income, urban, public elementary schools.
Based on postal questionnaire from 4333 adults (23–85 years) living in 168 neighborhoods in the south-eastern Netherlands Dutch researchers found that improving access to FV in the household and food shopping environments will only make a small contribution to improving population consumption levels, and may only have a limited effect in reducing socioeconomic inequalities in their consumption.

A new report from ERS at USDA estimated that a 10-percent subsidy would encourage low-income Americans to increase their consumption of fruits by 2.1-5.2 percent and vegetables by 2.1-4.9 percent. The annual cost of such a subsidy for low-income Americans would be about $310 million for fruits and $270 million for vegetables. And most would still not meet Federal dietary recommendations.
The changed include whole grain bread and cereals, and fres, frosen and canned vegetables and fruits. All US states will only be required to meet new Women, Infants and Children food program requirements by October 2010.
Farmworkers ad their families were on-goingly asked whether or not they had consumed a given fruit or vegetable in the past month. The proportion of respondents who ate apples, pears, plums, peaches, apricots, peppers, corn, and cucumbers was highest in the fall harvest season, whereas the proportions of those who ate cherries and asparagus were highest in the summer thinning season.

1,687 young adult (mean age=20.5 years; 44% male) participated replyed to questionairs. Eating dinner with others was significantly associated with several markers of better dietary intake, including higher intakes of F&V. Eating on the run was significantly associated with higher intakes of soft drinks, fast food, total fat and saturated fat, and lower intake of several healthful foods. Findings suggest that health services and programs for young adults should encourage taking the time to sit down for meals and to share meals with others.
223 WIC participants throughout Maryland were interviewed about resent changed in the WIC program. All participants (100%) consumed fruits and vegetables. They preferred fresh for taste, but many endorsed canned and frozen for convenience and cost. Participants endorsed whole-wheat bread as more healthful and reported that they (59%) and their children (51%) would increase consumption if provided by WIC.
379 middle-school children participating in a randomized controlled trial of a school-based F&V intervention were observed during school lunch one day and asked to recall intake the following day. Each food items were coded as: match, omission or intrusion. Matched foods’ portions were compared for accuracy. Fruit and vegetable count were accuracy in most cases.
