The ISAFRUIT project with 300 scientists from 60 research and development institutions and SMEs, in 16 countries across Europe, the USA and New Zealand, embarked upon a mission to encourage increased consumption of fruit, to improve the health and well-being of the European population. Their work resulted in this special issue including the following articles: 1) Barriers to Fruit Consumption; 2) Trends in Fruit Consumption in 4 European Countries; 3) Health Benefits of Increased Fruit Intake; 4) The Role of Fruit in Prevention of Obesity; 5) Increasing the Consumption of F&V by School Children: Role for the European Union.
