Low-carb diets can affect dieters’ cognition skills

A new study from the psychology department at Tufts University shows that when dieters eliminate carbohydrates from their meals, they performed more poorly on memory-based tasks than when they reduce calories, but maintain carbohydrates. When carbohydrates were reintroduced, cognition skills returned to normal.

Konkurrencestyrelsen, som har givet Valsemøllen en bøde for en ulovlig prisaftale mellem Valsemøllen og grossisten Hedegård & Christensen Eftf. Bøden er på en million kroner og direktøren har fået en personlig bøde på 100.000 kroner for at forsøge at diktere priserne. Møllen betegner forseelsen som ganske uforsætlig.

The Cancer Project found that most Value Menus are high in fat, saturated fat, calories, sodium, and cholesterol. Many items also contain processed meats and grilled meats, which are linked to increased cancer risk. The five most unhealthful items on the US market were ranked from worst to least bad are: 1) Junior Bacon Cheeseburger (Jack in the Box) 2) Cheesy Double Beef Burrito (Taco Bell) 3) Breakfast Sausage Biscuit (Burger King) 4) McDouble (McD) and 5) Junior Bacon Cheeseburger (Wendy’s).

5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1

The Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children has introduces a new program called 5-4-3-2-1 where 24 high school students teach nutrition classes to elementary age children. The classes are being held at various after-school programs and day care centers. The students are teaching students the 5-4-3-2-1 principle, which advocates five servings of fruits and vegetables, four glasses of water, three servings of low-fat dairy products, two hours or less of screen time and one hour or more of exercise daily.

These two books were published in 2006 by WHO Europe.
