De hvide hvedebrød på butikshylderne steg med 16 %, mens rugbrødet steg med 12 % i perioden august 2007 til februar 2008. Men hvis prisstigningerne skulle følge noteringerne for korn, er det alt for højt. Ud fra de tyve brødtyper som Konkurrencestyrelsen undersøgte, skulle forbrugerprisen på både rugbrød og hvedebrød kun være steget med fire % i butikkerne.

The big apple just launched a new campaign to help New Yorkers make the most of the city’s calorie-posting rules. Under the New York City Health Code, chain restaurants are now required to post calorie counts for food items on menus and menu boards. The new ads make clear, that you don’t have to give up all indulgences to eat fewer calories. By ordering a diet soda and a small order of fries with your cheeseburger, for example, you can cut the caloric impact by half – from 1,250 to 670.

US Schools Participate in National Walk to School Week

Since Monday, US schools have been participating in the annual Walk to School Week, which encourages children and their parents to walk or bike to school. Supported by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the initiative seeks to engage children in simple physical activities that can help reduce obesity and stave off obesity-related illnesses. According to the National Center for Safe Routes to Schools Web site, more than 2,756 schools across all 50 states participated in Walk to School Day in 2007.
