I Hundige i det nordlige Greve har to af kommunens skoler fået vendt elevflugten fra folkeskolen ved at sætte fokus på kost og motion.
Here are some tips to resist overeating and eating poorly when you’re stressed out. Eliminate “junk food” from our environment is one of them. Dr. Creagan is often astounded about how easy it is to access the cookies, the cakes, the pastries, and the candy bars which are within arms reach. If these items are not within our grasp, the chances are we will not be tempted.
MSG Use Linked To Obesity
Aug 14
People who use monosodium glutamate, or MSG, as a flavor enhancer in their food are more likely than people who don’t use it to be overweight or obese even though they have the same amount of physical activity and total calorie intake, according to a study in the journal Obesity.
Canadian researchers analyzed over 350 cereals, snacks, frozen foods and other products aimed at children, excluding junk foods such as soft drinks, cookies, and chips. If the food had at least two ‘œfun’ indicators on its packaging – such as strange colors, kid language, and cartoon characters – it was deemed kid-targeted. 89% of these products were of poor nutrition quality. Products with high sugar levels accounted for 70% of these unhealthful goods.

The EU Commission invites submission of posters for forthcoming conference on School Fruit Scheme
Aug 13
On 8 July 2008, the European Commission presented its proposal for the introduction of an EU-wide School Fruit Scheme (SFS). In order to kick-start the linked networking activities, the Commission is now organising a major conference, bringing together experts from all Member states. This event will take place in Brussels in December 2008. As part of this conference there will be a poster exhibition of best practice models to provide SFS project promoters and stakeholders with examples for establishing or improving a School Fruit Scheme. Interested parties are now invited to submit models as posters for this exhibition. These posters must be designed to deliver ‘operational’ information in an easily understandable way. The posters will be exhibited during the conference and published on the Europa website. Full details on how to submit best practice models can be found at http://ec.europa.eu/agriculture/markets/fruitveg/sfs/events/conference/index_en.htm
Given the low level of understanding, it’s no surprise that most people also have trouble deciphering the difference between multi-grain and whole-wheat flour in a loaf of bread.
Children with poor hand control and coordination are more likely to become obese adults, researchers said on Wednesday. The finding adds to a growing body of evidence linking poorer cognitive function in childhood to obesity and type 2 diabetes in adults.
Two studies, one from Germany and another from the US published this week, suggest that obese people do not always carry an increased risk of heart disease, while some individuals of normal weight do. The clue appeared to lie in how body fat was distributed, for example fat in the abdomen, as indicated by a larger waist circumference, was a consistent risk factor in both studies.
