The UK’s Food Commission is introducing a charter for celebrities who want to pledge they will not use their image to promote foods high in fat, saturated fat, sugar or salt.
This study published in December 2008 identified two distinct aspects of policies: ‘influential factors’ which are factors that might impact policies related to Active transportation to and from school and ‘policy actions’ which are policies and initiatives that directly affected their success. Influential factors included sidewalks, crosswalks/crossing guards, funding, personal safety concerns, advocacy group involvement and others. Policy actions included policies on school speed zone, drop-off, no-transport zones, school siting, school start/dismissal time and school choice.
Anecdotal feedback from shoppers indicates that on/off program is having the most influence on purchases in the juice, cereal and soup categories. A more formal measurement of the impact of the new labeling on sales and basket sizes is under way.
The CIAA has responded to criticisms levelled at its GDA nutrition labelling system by a campaign from Denmark, emphasising points including the tool’s neutral, science basis, and work towards setting portion sizes.
This leaves time for reflection, mobilizing other countries AND finding better solutions.

This report provides guidance to Federal land managers on how to promote bicycling. Bicycling facilities are important transportation and recreation links to connect gateway communities, visitor centers, campgrounds, trailheads, and other attractions on Federal lands. This report presents benefits of bicycling, successful bicycling programs, policies that support bicycling, issues and challenges faced by land managers, and useful resources available to help meet these challenges. Bicycle transportation networks have significant positive impacts for the environment, health and visitor experience on Federal lands. Federal land managers have the opportunity to serve as positive national role models by mainstreaming bicycling to create sustainable transportation networks.
In a cross-over study, 59 participants were randomly assigned to receive either 100 kcal packs or standard size packages of snacks for one week. After a minimum of a one week washout period, participants received the other form of the snack for a further week. Snack consumption was recorded by participants in a diary. According to the results, participants consumed an average of 186.9 fewer grams of snacks per week when receiving 100 kcal snack packs compared to standard size packages of snacks.
